description
David Peretz is an artist of European stature. He is known for his rich and varied work in the genres of landscape, portrait and especially still life. His painting is dense and pasty in places, and the color is dynamic and lively. The landscape composition "Fruit trees in Provence " is characteristic of the artist's work. His life path took him from his hometown of Plovdiv to Sofia, where he graduated from the Art Academy. In the 1930s and 1940s, David Perets, Zlatyu Boyadjiev and Vasil Barakov traveled through the beautiful Rhodopes and painted plein air landscapes. They were jokingly called "Baratsite" and this nickname is still alive today when we talk about these great Bulgarian artists. During his many travels in the 1930s in Holland and France, he became closely acquainted with European trends, which enriched him and provoked him to experiment in different directions. In the mature years of his creativity, he also worked in the field of abstract composition. In 1947 he went to Israel, and later settled with his family in Paris, where he remained until the end of his life in 1982. The landscape "Orchard in Provence" was created precisely in the period after 1947 in France and depicts fruit trees at the foot of the mountain. Flowering trees in white and golden ocher are set against the rounded blue-green mountain ridges. The terrains in the foreground are dynamic and sketchily rendered. The oil paint is applied in band-like strokes, which creates a strong post-impressionist image on the canvas. David Perets does not cut ties with his homeland and his friends the Baraks. He presents his works in France and Bulgaria. (S.N.)
