description
Dimitar Kazakov–Neron is one of the most unique artists in Bulgarian art. His work continues to surprise us with its bold and innovative solutions. The artwork "Couplee's Love" is extremely characteristic of the artist's style. In his preferred square format, the artist places two portrait images of a man and a woman in profile, facing each other. A strong emotional connection is created between the two figures, as they are depicted very close, and their gazes merge. The two figures are unified and connected, like the two halves of an apple, forming a whole with symbolic meaning. The silhouettes are in the characteristic style of Dimitar Kazakov–Neron. Throughout his creative journey, the artist remained deeply connected to the land and our traditional culture. He creates a magical world in which memories from his native village Tsarski Izvor, myths and legends from national folklore, and projections of ancient cultures and civilizations intertwine. Without hiding his affinity for Orthodox iconography, he draws inspiration from the art of the Etruscans, Mycenae, Persia, and Iran. He writes: 'The distance from the Kazanlak tomb to the image of Desislava (in Boyana Church) is not great. This distance, covered with millennia of archaeological layers, is my idol and my inspiration.' (From a letter in 1979 to Aksinia Djurova, 'The Myth of Dimitar Kazakov Neron,' 2003). Ancient civilizations inspire him, and this is evident in his works, which always carry a breeze from the past. They are organically connected with mythology and tradition. In this case, the motifs on the machine-printed canvas, on which the silhouettes are painted in a single breath, are traditional. It is the contrast between these emotional figures, entirely in the spirit of his work, and the motifs from traditional Bulgarian embroidery that make the composition 'People's Love' so extravagant and memorable. The title "Couple's love" also brings a pleasant touch of humor and leaves us contemplating the depths of national tradition. Similar images, filled with expression, can be found in his attempts on ceramic panels, which he worked on in 1988 at the 'Troyan Ceramics' factory in Troyan, at the invitation of the artist Tsvyatko Dochev. Ninety-five of them are displayed in the 'Kazakov Donation' at the Architectural-Historical Reserve 'Varosha,' in Lovech. (S.N.)
