description
Veselin Staikov was born in the town of Peshtera in 1906. In 1925, he graduated in graphic arts from the Art Academy, with Boris Mitov, Tseno Todorov, Vasil Zahariev, and Nikola Marinov as his instructors. After graduating from the academy with distinction, he specialized in painting in Florence in 1940, where he further developed his talent in Felice Carena's studio. Staikov primarily worked in the field of graphics and painting. Many of his works have represented Bulgarian fine art at international exhibitions in dozens of countries around the world. The artist has had solo exhibitions in Munich, Prague, Berlin, Leipzig, and Potsdam. In 1958, he visited China together with another distinguished Bulgarian creator - Dechko Uzunov. The reason is that both are included in the cultural exchange between Bulgaria and China, which started in the mid-50s of the 20th century. There, the two artists spent three months visiting many attractions. The work of Veselin Staikov - "Landscape in Canton" was created during this period. The city of Canton is also known by the name Guangzhou, located in Southeast China, with most of it located on the banks of the Zhu Jiang river. The lithograph presents an industrial coastal landscape, whose scene depicts the city of Canton, where the rhythmic pulse of the sea intertwines with the lively energy of the port city life. Staikov's work testifies to the rich history of trade and traditions of ancient China - a work of art that encapsulates the essence of commerce and culture, flourishing along its coasts for centuries.
