description
Edmond Demirjian is a Bulgarian artist and musician of Armenian origin, born in 1951 in Sofia. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts specialising in mural painting under Prof. Dimo Zaimov in 1978. In 1994, he received a green card for permanent residence in the United States under the law for "outstanding merit in the field of art". Until 1998, he divided his time between Bulgaria and the USA. In 1995, he received a prestigious painting scholarship from the American Pollock-Krasner Foundation. The creative path of the artist goes through several periods. After graduating from the art academy, he mainly created figurative compositions, interiors and still lifes. Later, at the end of the 80s, the artist began to explore the field of expressionism and abstraction. In his work, "The morning coffee", we observe the symbiosis between the melodiousness of the stormy color range that the artist uses and the narrative in the construction of the objects. Demirjiyan himself shares the following about his work, in the monograph compiled by the art critic Maria Vasileva: "The very objects I paint best express my sense of form, condition, and mood." The attitude towards the world and our surroundings is of fundamental importance for the sensibility and artistic expression of the artist. It is this balance that Demirjian builds between the abstract and the real. In order to understand the philosophy of a creator who dares to live on the border of the two worlds, we must look at his message, precisely : "Imagine that the world around us looks exactly the way it looks in my paintings. Think it at least for a short while while you look at them - that's absolutely enough." (SY)
