description
Bencho Obreshkov was born on April 27, 1899 in Karnobat. In addition to being a student at the Art Industrial School, Obreshkov is also a graduate of the Dresden Art Academy. His work undoubtedly reflects an academic-classical style of execution, indicative of a European manner. His favourite genres are - still life, landscape, and portrait, and his preferred technique is oil painting. The still life was created in the 1930s. The artwork captures the quiet intimacy of a well-lit room, central to which is a meticulously detailed ceramic vase with flowers, executed with impressive realism. The vase with flowers encapsulates the delicate interaction between nature, shape, and color, serving as an eternal homage to beauty in its simplest form. Another interesting aspect of the work is the so-called phenomenon - "picture in a picture". Behind the vase with flowers, a window is discovered, revealing a tranquil pastoral scene of fertile fields under a sky drenched in the warm hues of the setting sun. The light in the picture is masterfully balanced as it is delicate and natural, filtering through the window, casting gentle shadows and accents that lend a depth of dimension to the scene. The still life is proof of Obreshkov's ability to capture the ephemeral beauty of nature and the enduring allure of art. At the time the artwork was created, Bencho Obreshkov visited Belgrade on the occasion of his participation in a large-scale Bulgarian painting exhibition, along with other famous artists like Sirak Skitnik, Dechko Uzunov, Nikola Marinov, and Boris Denev.
